According to the FreePress alert I received,
“…members of the House came one step closer to achieving a longstanding ideological goal: silencing NPR.
They passed a rotten bill that would end taxpayer support for NPR and stop local public radio stations from using federal dollars to buy any radio programming. Period.”
Although there is controversy about the comments made by an NPR staff members, children and local residents will be greatly affected because they will lose PBS.
In Chicago, Channel 11 is a PBS station and most people I know grew up on Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers neighborhood, and other “clean” and educational programming. Sesame Street teaches children foreign languages, basic manners and how to share. There is also Channel 20 that hosts a variety of shows that are relevant to and created by people in Chicago.
This would be a great loss to Chicago. Especially to our children. Call your senators today! I called Dick Dubin’s office and was told that they are defending NPR. I left a message for Mark Kirk; I don’t know his standing on the issue.
Go to the U.S. Senator site to find out.
