Jazz Ambassadors Internship for Teens – Application Deadline is April 3rd

The Chicago Park District/Jazz Institute of Chicago Jazz Ambassadors program is a 6 week paid internship for teens from 14 to 18 years of age that includes workshops in Jazz technique, ensemble work, composition, theory and more under the direction of three Jazz mentors.   As an ensemble, the Jazz Ambassadors will perform at several parks around the city and will record a CD.

If you qualify as a Jazz Ambassador -Intern you will have to audition your musical instrument for the program and you will be sent information about scheduling an audition time.   Auditions will only be scheduled on Monday, May 9, 2011 and Monday May 16, 2011 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.  at the Fine Arts Building, 410 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL. 60605. For the audtion please be prepared to play a blues head and a tune of your choice. You will be required to play the melody and improvise over the changes.  Bass players will be required to show proficiency walking through the changes and soloing, and drummers will be required to display intimate knowledge of the form while accompanying and soloing.  You will also have to site read.
