Mr. Lee’s Memories of the FunTown Jingle

Child at Amusement Park

Mr. Lee is one of the FunTown Fans who responded to my post about about the lack of information about the park on South Side of Chicago.  Read more on his memories.

Funtown Memories of Mr. Lee:

Over the past 12 years , I’ve been looking for archival records Funtown.  The closest thing I have run across was a old radio jingle that was played last year on WVON during a tribute on the passing of Richard Pegue – he did the jingle for Funtown.  All of us who were around during those times still remember.  When I heard it, I caught the recording halfway and recorded it with my cell phone.  Since then I have changed phones, but I still have the phone.  Hopefully, the recording is still on there.

Also, I’ve also been in search of archival records of places that I usally bring up on My Facebook Page. The Loop Roller Rink on 95th; The Magikist Lips On 87th & the Dan Ryan; Community Department Stores; etc.

I found this on the Roller Coaster Database:

“Funtown, Funtown for the kids and you, 95th and Stoney Island Av-e-nue, Funtown!”

Thoughts from Shorty:
Mr. Lee brought up an interesting thought.  Would you be willing to pay to download the Funtown jingle as a ringtone?

  1. I remember Funtown too and the jingle which was heard on WVON and WJPC. I think that when I was small, around six or seven, my male cousins who were around ten and twelve took me there. They spent our bus fare home and we walked for what seemed like eternity. I remember one of them put me on his back to carry me because I was so tired that I’d fallen down and skinned both knees. I still have those scars forty years later but I remember FunTown fondly and remember my last visit there in my late teens or early twenties. I know they closed in 82 when I was 22. Ooops, I’m telling on myself, lol. Oh well. I remember Riverview too and being scared to death of that damn Aladdin. Once I got past those giant piercing eyes, I was ok. Those same cousins even took me on the Bobs once and that didn’t scare me as much as that big scary face.

  2. Hello. Just came across your post and if you are looking for the Funtown theme, there is a portion of it at Richard Pegue’s website ” The best music of your life “. When you open up the places we used to visit page, it plays the Funtown theme song.

  3. I tried the site .  No Volume or sound to hear the jingle.  Dang it

  4.  I loved Fun Town we were there at least three times a week, oh yes and I still sing the jingle wish I could’ve enjoyed Fun Town with my kids.

  5. Before I knew anything about Disney or Six Flags, my only wish was to go to FUNTOWN for the weekend! Get the ring tone and I will buy it. I would like it if you got some pictures and videos. If you are really from the South Side of Chicago, you have to know FUN TOWN (every time I think of FunTown, it makes me smile).

  6. Hi there! I’m working on all of it. If you would like to share your stories, email me at resources@goshorty.net and put “My Funtown Memories” in the subject line. I have great things planned with a little cooperation from others.
