Where Are Bookstores on the South Side Now that Borders is Gone?

borders books

All of the Borders on the South Side are gone, and I just had to wonder: where are the bookstores on this side of town?

Have library usage picked up since Borders left or did all of the business move online?

I was just wondering. Where do you get your books now that Borders is gone?

  1. Dan, thank you for your thoughts on this topic. I was am actually reading up on self-publishing which would give me the knowledge of these topics, but what is the best way to get young people to care?

  2. ShortySuch a loaded question far beyond my ability… One of the most vexing problems confronting educators today is the chronic achievement gap between black male students and their peers.  This is not so much a technological issue, this is being motivated to learn to read, write, and do the math and sciences. Ipads, Kindles, etc are just the media, only a replacement for paper.

Yet, motivating black youth, especially males to achieve in schools and  getting these students in middle school and high school to value learning, and improve their grades appears to be your question?…. Many past slogans identfied this issue and attempted to verbalize campaigns to combat this problem with words such as….
“I am somebody… I am somebody””A mind is a terrible things to waste”

For more information of strategies for motivating black youths, recommended readings include;(1) Motivating Black Males to Achieve in School and in Life by Kafele, Baruti K. (2009)(2) Reading for Their Life: Re)Building the Textual Lineages of African American Adolescent Males by Tatum, Alfred (2009).
